Arson probe continues
The police are still investigating six fires they believe were deliberately lit in Christchurch on Thursday evening. A police spokesman said there was no evidence the fires were connected. The most serious blaze occurred at Linwood Avenue Primary School, where the inside of a prefabricated classroom was badly damaged by a fire about 1.30 a.m. The other fires included: Waterfront Joinery’s factory in Norwich Quay, Lyttelton, which was extensively damaged about 11 p.m.
Boon and Company’s workshop |in St Asaph Street. Minor damage was done to a' wall cavity in the wooden building soon after midnight. Parkview Primary School. Fires were set in a rubbish container, although little damage was caused. Burnside Primary School. An attempt was made to burn down an adventure playground, with little damage caused. The wall of a garage behind the King George Hotel in Madras Street was set on fire and charred just before midnight.
