Planned strike called off

Ashburton reporter A planned strike by meat inspectors at the Canterbury Venison Works has been called off. Meat inspectors in a dispute over shiftwork at the Seafield plant decided early last evening to call off the strike planned for Monday. Few details were available about yesterday’s discussions but a spokesman for the meat inspectors said talks between their representative, the Public Service Association, and the employers’ representative, the State Services Commission, were likely to restart. He was hopeful the dispute would be settled soon.
