Napier fleece prices firm

PA Napier Fleece prices were mostly firmer at the Napier wool sale yesterday, compared with .the Christchurch and Timaru sales last week.

The official report said that 34 micron fleece was inclined in sellers’ favour; 35 micron best style was in buyers’ favour and the rest firm to in sellers’ favour; and 37 micron in sellers’ favour to plus 2 per cent Cotts generally were in buyers’ favour to down 5 per cent Second-shear was fully firm to in sellers’ favour. Bulky skirtings, best styles, were firm, poorer

were in buyers’ favour, and bellies down as much as 2.5 per cent. Second pieces and locks were up 2.5 per cent and clothing oddments in buyers’ favour.

Lambs’ wool was in sellers’ favour to plus 2.5 per cent. Main competition came from Eastern Europe and the Far East with support from New Zealand carpet mills and New Zealand merchant scourers.

The 28,468-bale offering included 35 per cent full fleece, 25 per cent second-shear, 25 per cent first lambs, 10 per cent second lambs, and 5 per

cent each of combing oddments and shorter combing oddments. Fleece and secondshear on offer was typical of an end-of-season offering, better fleece lots being scarce. Most lots showed discolouration and webb. The lambs’ wool included few good coloured lots, most showing light or medium discolouration. Range of prices.— Crossbred fleece, 35 micron: Good 479 to 488, aver? age to good 470 to 475, average 465 to 470. Crossbred, 37 micron: Good 488 to 493, average to good 475 to 483, average 470 to 474.-.

Crossbred cotts, 37 micron: Average-poor to 452. Second-shear, 35 micron, 50/100mm to 75/100mm: Good 473 to 483, average to good 456 to 468. Second-shear, 37 micron, 50/100mm to 75/100mm: Good 480 to 485, average to good 460 to 467. First lambs, 28 micron, to 50/75mm: Good to 495, average to good to 485, average to 470.

First lambs, 29 micron, 25/ 75mm to 50/75mm: Good 483 to 489, average to good 473 to 476, average 457 to 461. First lambs, 30 micron, 50/ 75mm to 75mrh: Good 472 to 474, average to good 465 to 470, average 453 to 457. Second lambs: Average 392 to 396, average to good 372 to 376. ‘
