Hellemans, Baker favoured
Canterbury’s two most accomplished triathletes, John Hellemans and Erin Baker, are the favourites to win the men’s and women’s sections respect tivefy, of the JazzerciseTri Sports triathlon today.
A new event on the triathlon calendar in Canterbury, the course will follow a similar route to other triathlons held this season. The I.6km swim will be in Corsair Bay. The 40km cycle leg will include the northern side of Lyttelton Harbour and
Evans Pass through Sumner and Woolston, and the 10km run will be on a course around Sumner. The organisers had hoped to have the event finish at Hagley Park in Christchurch, but because of the traffic problems involved, the Ministry of Transport felt it impractical to allow athletes into the city area. There is a strong women’s contingent in today’s event There are 21 entrants besides Baker.
