The company is active in the wholesaling and retailing of a wide range of grocery, variety and liquor merchandise, with a total of five outlets including two modern supermarkets. Employees number approximately 300 and sales are about NZ$46 million p.a. with new outlets planned. The position available is one of three reporting immediately to the Merchandise Controller, in a department of 10 people. The prime responsibility is for range selection, buying, inventory control, gross profit planning, markdown policy and promotion of a wide range of food, beverage, liquor, frozen, dairy and dry grocery products, plus shared responsibility with Operations for presentation and sales performance. Occasional travel will be required to the main source areas, i.e. New Zealand, Australia. Initial appointment will be on a two year contract basis and open-ended thereafter.
