KINGDOM OF TONGA On behalf of the Government of Tonga we are recruiting for three senior appointments with two-year contracts. The positions are all based on Tongatapu, the main island of the Tonga fhe U conditions applying to these appointments include: a Tonga Allowance; housing at moderate rental; employer superannuation contributions maintained; allowances for children remaining in school in New Zealand with annual travel to Tonga. Special conditions of release will apply to any NZ Government employees appointed. Salaries will be subject to Tongan income tax which is generally lower than NZ P.A.Y.E. All candidates should have had experience of co-ordinating the work of others and have the ability to pass on knowledge and train counterpart staff. Airport Manager (Operations-Maintenance) The Airport Manager, Department of Civil Aviation has responsibility for the management and operation of Tonga’s international airport at Fua’amotu, together with the other airports within the Kingdom of Tonga. Included within the responsiblity are communications, navigational aids, airport engineering and maintenance, buildings, safety and security. The training and development of Tongan staff is a key responsibility. The Airport Manager reports to the Director of Civil Aviation. . Candidates should be experienced civil aviation officers and should possess a sound background of airport operation and management. The salary will be in the vicinity of NZ$4B,OOO p.a. Position Reference number 1511. Chief Architect The Chief Architect is responsible for the co-ordination of the activities of the Building Division of the Ministry of Works and will advise on the construction and maintenance of all public buildings in the Kingdom. The preparation of the Government Building Programme, the oversight of private consultants’ commissions and the training and development of senior Building Division staff are amongst the key functions of the position. Candidates should be experienced Registered Architects. The salary will be in the vicinity of NZ545,000 p.a. Position Reference number 1512. Quantity Surveyor The appointee will have responsibility for the Quantity Surveying section of the Ministry of Works. Particular functions include providing project costing advice, preparing preliminary estimates and advising on tenders from outside contractors. The development of local staff will be an important responsibility. . t j l ij Candidates should be Registered Quantity Surveyors with NZCQS or equivalent and should have sound professional experience.
