‘Silly old moo’ dies
From Robin Charteris London Miss Dandy Nicholls, famous for her portrayal of “The silly old moo,” Else, in the televison series, "Till Death Do Us Part,” has died in London Hospital after a long illness. The 78-year-old actress was best known for her role as the long-suffering wife of loud-mouth bigot Alf Garnet, played by Warren Mitchell. The couple survived a television “marriage” of some 13 years since the first episodes of the series, that was shown around the world. Her illness, which con-
fined Miss Nicholls to a wheelchair in recent years, did not stop her from carrying on in television. Last year, at her own instigation, she paired again with Warren Mitchell in a new 8.8. C. series, “In Sickness And In Health,” in which she appeared throughout in her wheelchair. Miss Nicholls was admitted to London Hospital two weeks ago after complaining of leg pains following a fall. One of five children, she worked for 12 years as a secretary at a Boot Factory in Hammersmith before taking up the theatre.
