Toad and friends live
Kenneth Grahame’s classic tales of the riverbank are brought to life in the award-winning series
from Thames Television, “The Wind in the Willows” beginning tomorrow afternoon on Two. So real and lifelike are the figures of Toad, Badger, Rat and Mole that it is hard to believe that they are merely lumps of latex, painstakingly stretched and moulded by the skilled hands of Mark Hall and Brian Cosgrove. A team of animators assist . in bringing the characters to life in their equally detailed surroundings while actors of the calibre of Sir Michael
Hordern, lan Carmichael and David Mason happily lend their voices to them. As a result, this television adaptation of the stories that have thrilled a generation has been acclaimed worldwide. In 1983 it won a British BAFTA Award for best children’s programme and in 1984 picked up an International Emmy Award in New York. To date 18 20-minute tales of Toad and his friends have been completed, with four more to come.
