Superb Belliss bowls
NZPA special correspondent Coatbridge, Scotland Peter Beiliss increased his chances of adding the Embassy World Indoor Bowls Championship to his world outdoor title at Coatbridge, Scotland yesterday. / The New Zealander extinguished the challenge of teenage Scot, Richard Corsie, with a superb exhibition of precision bowls in the 4.(7 Beiliss, aged 34, making
his debut in the event, destroyed the 19 year-old Edinburgh postman, 21-9, to set up a quarter final meeting with either the defending champion, Terry Sullivan, of Wales, or Hong Kong’s George Souza. In the match Beiliss proved to be in a class of his own, racing to a 8-0 lead before Corsie could draw breath. The youngster eventually steadied himself, and fought back to 5-11 before Beiliss sealed Corsie’s fate
with a ’’full house” of four shots at the tenth end. The Scot scored only three more times. Beiliss, who has backed himself to win the title at 25-1, will face Sullivan or Souza today immediately after Skoglund has made his bid for a place in the semi-finals. Skoglund faces an awesome task against the three time champion, David Bryant, who beat Ireland’s David Hamilton, 21-18, to reach the quar-ter-finals.
