Settlement in two wage awards

PA Dunedin Two industrial awards negotiated in Dunedin last week achieved settlements of 15.5 per cent, regarded as the “going rate” or general level in the 1985-86 round. The New Zealand (except Northern industrial district, Canterbury and Westland) Stores and Warehouse Employees’ award was settled on the 15.5 per cent wage rise, with meal money at $5 and four weeks annual leave after seven years service.

Also agreed upon was an adult rate at 18 years and the junior scale will now match the Northern and Canterbury awards. The settlement applies to wages paid from February 1. In the New Zealand (except Northern and Westland) Saddlers and Canvas Workers’ award the settlement of 15.5 achieved on January 29 includes the introduction of a 20c an hour premium for indentured tradesmen. Annual leave entitlement is extended to four weeks after seven years. The agreement applies to wages paid on or after February 15.
