Cutler on course for title
PA Tauranga Auckland chemical engineer, John Cutler, was on a steady course to retain his national Finn class yachting title after yesterday’s third race in the 1986 championships being sailed off Mt Maunganui. With two wins and a second in the series, Cutler has only three penalty points under the Olympic class scoring system — well clear of a fellow Aucklander, Mark Oliver, on 13.7 points. Third over all is yet another Aucklander, Greg Knowles (22.7), with Napier’s Guy Mannering (24.4), and Dunedin’s John Irving (24.7), in a close battle for fourth.
The depleted fleet of nine contesting the championships has enjoyed excellent conditions over the first two days.
