Williams out till March

PA Wellington The Woodville jockey, G. W. Williams, was suspended on Wednesday until the beginning of March. Williams, who was able to ride at Tauherenikau yesterday and will ride at Wairoa tomorrow, will be sidelined until the conclusion of racing on March 1 because of his riding of the unplaced Karson at Awapuni on October 9.

A sub-committee of the Wanganui District Racing Committee met at Awapuni on Wednesday to consider charges laid by a senior stipendiary steward,, Mr J. M. McCullough, that Williams failed to ride the horse on its merits, and failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure that Karson was given the full opportunity to win.

After considering the evidence, including video films of Karson racing at Awapuni, Woodville and Motukarara, and hearing the submissions of counsel, the committee found Williams guilty.
