Mr C. T. Lewis of the Femland Cinema, 56 Cathedral Square, has responded to Ted Mulcock’s letter last week complaining that there are no wholesome, stimulating films screening in Christchurch. The Fernland, on the Savoy Comer, specialises in this type of film, says Mr Lewis. During the school holidays, carefully selected children’s films are screened twice daily. At other times films on travel, art, sport, comedy

and special subjects are screened, as well as many .<• of the classic sound and : silent films. > This year the cinema is launching - a Children’s Film Club, showing a dif- - ferent movie on the first Saturday of each month at * 2 p.m. The films will be for >, members only and will • not be advertised in the ; newspapers. Subscriptions > are $2 a family for the ; year (which covers the cost of a newsletter), and • an admission charge for ; each film.
