FUN RIDERS’ GUIDE No. 5 Don’t strain while training
The Fun Ride is exactly what it sounds like but to really enjoy it, some preparation is most important We have already told you in a previous article of the essentials such as the cycle size, position on the bike etc. By now you will no doubt have decided on the distance you wish to ride, and will want to know how much training you should do. For those of you unaccustomed to riding long
distances, I would suggest that you start with a skm ride extending it to about 15km by the end of the first week. Keep extending it weekly until you can ride the distance of your choice at least twice before the big day. It is up to you how many days in the week you go riding but it should be a minimum of three and, of course, it goes without saying that the more days you can f fit in during the week the fitter
you will be at the weekend. While training it is important to be able to spin a gear rather than push it In other words you don’t strain while training. In the final article of the series it will tell you what to wear on the day and how to follow the correct course. By Craig Adair in association with Bryce Sims of “The Press.”
