PA Wellington Four rapes in as many weeks in Rotorua have prompted the police to warn young people not to wander the city alone at night. The police also advised young women living alone not to leave windows open. The warnings came after a rape on Tuesday where the offender climbed through a woman’s open bedroom window.
The woman, aged 20, was forced through various rooms in the house by the offender, who demanded money. She eventually gave him $2 — all she had in the house. He tied her up in clothes and raped her. Rotorua police described the offence as particularly bad. A woman had been indecently assaulted also, and thrown in . Lake Rotorua, by three youths on Tuesday morning, the police said.
