Easy netball win
NZPA staff correspondent Washington The New Zealand young international netball team beat Quebec Juniors, 53-12, in the first game of its Canadian tour in Montreal yesterday. The New Zealanders led, 22-7, at half-time in what the team’s manager, Mrs Laraine Meek, described as a “warmup” game for the tour. Only two 20-minute halves were played rather than the usual four quarters. “It was a good settling in game to get the players over their jet-lag,” said Mrs Meek. Uje New Zealanders were
slow to get going but “very definitely” warmed up in the second half, she said. The opposition was not strong, being a team of local junior players. Substitutions were made at the mid-way point to give a game to as many of the New Zealand players as possible. The Canadian tour, which includes two more games in Montreal, and two games each in Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver, is the first international experience for most in the netball team which is coached by Yvonne Willering. _
