Power rise ‘another pressure’
PA Wellington Rises in power charges will add another cost pressure on manufacturers and contribute to higher prices, the director of the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association, Mr Wally Gardner, said yesterday. Power charges for Wellington factories will rise 18.7 per cent on April 1, with the domestic tariff rising 20 per cent. Mr Gardner said the Government had increased bulk supply charges 42.5 per cent to North Island consumers over the last two years. Rises in power charges inevitably had an effect on prices when higher wages and other cost increases were taken into account.
