25 Chch road deaths

Traffic officers attended 2630 road accidents in Christchurch City last year, 25 of them fatal. The city’s senior chief traffic officer, Mr lan McLauchlan, said yesterday that the Ministry of

Transport investigated 1064 injury accidents and 1542 non-injury accidents. The busiest month for accidents was June, although August had the highest death toll, with six fatalities in Christchurch.

Offences totalled 60,829 for the year, compared with 63,855 offences committed in 1984. The accident total was up slightly on the 1984 total of 2627.
