Kapil Dev player of series

NZPA-AAP Sydney The Indian cricket captain, Kapil Dev, has headed off the young Australian, Steve Waugh, for the player-of-the-series award in the 15 initial matches of the World Series Cup, it was announced yesterday. Dev picked up his winning points for the Benson and Hedges award in the last match of the series between India and New Zealand in Launceston.

He passed Australia’s Waugh, who was leading the points poll up to the Launceston game, to win the award of a gold tray and four gold goblets. Dev also shared the player-of-the-series award with his teammate, Kris Srikkanth, in the three-test series between India and Australia.

The prize then was also a gold tray and a set of gold goblets. A panel of cricket commentators allotted points for performances in each of the 15 lead-up matches of the World Series Cup on a three, two, one basis.
