Kotare Sterling looks sharp

Kotare Sterling, trained at Rangiora by Colin McDonald and an acceptor for the Autogas Pace for. three-year-olds at Addington Raceway on Friday, looked sharp when easily winning the Cl and 2 pace at the North Canterbury OTB workouts at Rangiora on Sunday. After being slow early, the Kotare Legend gelding was shot to the lead by McDonald at the 2000 m and took control thereafter, winning by three and a half lengths under a good hold. Prime Minister fought on well for second, half a head in front of Prince Nardins, with only a nose to Russler, in a blanket finish for second. The winner’s time was 3:35.8 for 2600 m, with the last 800 in Imin 1.2 s and the final 400 in 30.95. Three Ones looked impressive in winning the CO mobile heat in 3min 28 (2600 m Trained at Cust by Ray Dew, Three Ones was well off the pace mostly, but improved sharply from the 600 m and finished too strongly to win by two lengths from the pacemaking Masarko Adios, with Skipper Queen half a length away third. Joe Junior produced a fast finish from well back, to win the Cl and faster trot He eventually won by a neck going away from Herve, a winner at Add-

ington last Tuesday, with Pitcher a further two lengths back third. The winner’s time was 3min 39.15, with the last 800 m in Imin 2s and the final 400 m in 31.25.

Speedy Cheval, a son of Noodlum and Regal Cheval, trained at Rangiora by Maurice Vermuelen, led throughout to win the first two-year-old parade. Markelly, by Mark Lobell from Lavelia, finished

strongly for second, a head away, with Nyallo's Admiral (Admiral Halsey—Nyallo’s Queen), a further two lengths away, third. The winner’s time was 2min 55.4 s with the last 800 m in Imin 3s and the final 400 m in 29.85. An impressive filly in Petite Glamour, by Smooth Fella from Eblouir, began smartly and led throughout to win the second two-year-old

parade. Driven by her trainer, Paul Black, the half-sister to Jayex won by a length and a quarter from another filly, Clever Win (Clever Innocence— Lena Dhu), with Nata Knight a further length away, third. Petite Glamour’s time was slightly faster than the first heat. She won in 2min 54.95, the last 800 m in Imin 2.9 s and the final 400 m in 30.15.
