Aera’s Havoc shows style as a stayer

By

STEVE WILSON

Aera’s Havoc showed what an outstanding stayer she is when holding out Post Bake in a tight finish for the Rover New Zealand Cup at the Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club’s meeting at Queen Elizabeth II Park yesterday. The well-bred daughter of Top Club — Lisa Havoc jumped out of the boxes brilliantly to take up a handy lead. She was soon challenged by Smooth Shazam and Solid Top, but she managed to keep the advantage. With about 250 m to go the Masterton-trained bitch Post Bake joined issue with her and managed to take a slight advantage. But as they entered the home straight Aera’s Havoc showed her class and hung on to win by a neck. It was an outstanding run by the outsider of the field, Post Bake. She received a bad check in the early running and was knocked to the back of the field. She showed good railing skills to enable her to fight out the finish.

Streaking Kilty stormed home late to take third while the warm favourite Laura Knight was never really in a challenging position, and was midfield throughout. The highlight of the day was provided by the relatively inexperienced Genuine Honey, when she broke Merely Magic’s track record for 560 m by .12s when running 33.45 s in the Lucky Petfood Futurity Stakes. The weather was fine and the track firm for the meeting. (T.A.B. code: CHCG) AWA STAKES $150; C2; 330 m 3- ROAMING NOBLE 7 (R. Adcock and S.
