Work on new apartments

Work is well under way on eight new apartments being built at the Bishopspark retirement project in Park Terrace.

The new apartments are additional to 58 existing units completed last year. The apartments, designed for the elderly, have wheelchair access and rubbish

chutes. New units which face Hagley Park will cost $145,000 and rear units will cost $130,000. A “lifecare” contribution of $15,000 is also levied on residents. The Anglican Social Services is responsible for the development and its director, the Rev. Ted

Johnston, said two of the new units had already been sold in spite of the apparently high price. Some of the existing apartments were also being re-sold because their original purchasers had moved in to the rest home or had died, he said.
