Call for I.V.F. in Chch
PA Auckland A second in-vitro fertilisation clinic should be opened in Christchurch, says the Auckland Infertility Society. A Christchurch clinic would save South Island women having to go to Auckland for treatment, said the society’s secretary, Ms Deidre Stewart.
Demand at National Women’s Hospital in
Auckland had risen sharply, resulting in 12month delays for basic investigation and treatment.
“To have to wait 12 months for an appointment to start investigations into the cause places a further unnecessary burden on the emotions of a couple,” she said. Ms Stewart urged the
Auckland Hospital Board to give infertility services greater priority.
“It is all too easy for those who have not experienced infertility to view it as a non-life threatening event,” she said.
"What is difficult to appreciate is the pain and suffering this condition can cause.”
