Nicks a bonus for Dylan, Petty fans
PA Auckland Fans and promoters got a bonus yesterday when they greeted the visiting rock stars, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty. The pair was accompanied by the Fleetwood Mac lead singer, Stevie Nicks, who also flew into Auckland with the two American musicians. The two top-line performers were due to fly immediately to Wellington, where they are. due to play tomorrow, but the Air New Zealand strike delayed their flight for several hours. Dylan, clutching a
green scarf and wearing dark glasses, was first off the Continental flight from the United States. He spoke briefly to reporters before he was whisked away by a black limousine to a hotel. When asked why he flew half-way around the world for a concert Dylan replied: “I just love to fly." Then Nicks made her completely unexpected entrance, and almost escaped unrecognised before being spotted by reporters. The reason for her appearance was uncertain but she may join
Dylan and Petty on stage as a backing vocalist. Petty was the last to arrive, wearing a dark felt hat, black jacket, faded jeans and suede boots. He looked the worst for wear after his long flight, and sat between Nicks and another singer in the back seat of another black limousine. The three musicians were also taken to a hotel where arrangements were being made to get them to Wellington. Dylan and Petty will play in Auckland at Mount Smart Stadium on Friday.
