Lewis loses
NZPA-AFP Dallas Quadruple Olympic gold medallist, Carl Lewis, was beaten in his only run of the United States indoor season when he lost over 60 yards to his team-mate, Emmit King, at the Reunion Arena at Dallas, Texas, yesterday. Lewis, whose only other appearance at indoor meetings will be in the long jump at East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Saturday, won his heat easily but made a bad start in the final. He seemed glued to the starting blocks. When he did get going his usual acceleration was not enough-to take him past King, who won by 0.035. However, Lewis said he was satisfied with his performance after a week fully taken up by nonsporting activities. He had also been affected by worry about the health of his father, who had an operation for cancer of the colon a fortnight ago. The Olympic hero was optimistic about his chances for the outdoor season. He said he had been keeping in shape with weight training, and had a feeling that 1986 would be a good year.
