Floods welcomed

Floods usually spell disaster. Just over a week ago the people of Nelson had houses and property ruined after the Maitai River flooded. But floods are actually welcomed in some parts of the world. In Iraq, parts of China, Cambodia, and Egypt, floods are considered a blessing. Agriculture is possible and soil is enriched when rivers overflow in these places. A good example of this is the rising of the river Nile, which has been an occasion of celebration for thousands of years.
