United go-ahead
United Airlines planes will be allowed to fly to Tokyo from February 11, under a new United States-Japanese agreement authorising hand-over of the Tokyo landing rights by Pan American World Airways, the State Department has announced. Under the accord United will start flying the Pacific routes it bought in April from Pan Am for SUS7IS million (SNZI379 million). Japan had objected to the purchase on the grounds the long-standing arrangement on United StatesJapanese routes was unfavourable to its State carrier, Japan Air Lines.— Washington.
