Premier duke suffers stroke
NZPA-PA London The Duke of Norfolk is recovering from a stroke in a London hospital after being taken ill on holiday. The duke, Miles Fitza-lan-Howard, aged 70, was flown to King Edward VII Hospital, London, from Morocco, where he was on holiday with his wife. A hospital spokesman said that the duke had suffered a mild stroke and was in for observation. The Duke of Norfolk is England’s premier Duke and is Earl Marshal, responsible for arranging the ceremonial on Royal occasions.
Princess Michael of Kent was also believed to have been admitted to the same hospital. A London Sunday newspaper has reported that she had had secret treatment at a private ward in King Edward VII Hospital. The “Sunday Mirror” said it was rumoured that' she had undergone knee surgery. A hospital spokeswoman said that the Princess was not a patient there. She said she could not confirm whether Princess Michael, aged 40, had been admitted during the week-end.
