Boy killed by train

PA Dunedin A boy fishing from a Main Trunk railway bridge was killed yesterday when he was struck by a goods train. He was: Arron James Williams, aged 12, of Main Road, Fairfield. The boy was fishing with his father, Mr R. G. Williams, from the railway line at Blanket Bay, between Ravensbourne and Port Chalmers when the accident happened about 2.30 p.m. It is believed the boy was fishing on a concrete pylon below the bridge but climbed up on to the bridge and was struck by the train and thrown into the harbour. Divers called in by the police took about two hours to find the body under the bridge about 4.40 p.m.
