Ship’s cook found in sea

PA Auckland A ship’s cook found floating beside a berthed freighter became the fourth water accident victim in Auckland in two days. A crew member aboard the island freighter Fetu Moana spotted the man’s body beside the ship about 7.30 p.m. on Saturday. He was James Thomas McComish, aged 55, married, of Birkenhead. Mr McComish is believed to have fallen overboard unnoticed. Earlier on Saturday a man drowned when he was caught in a rip while swimming in Hobson Bay. He was Sionekeke Moleu, aged. 51, married of Glen Innes. Auckland police said Mr Moleu had jumped off a railway bridge about 12.20 p.m. intending to swim to the other side of the bay. A Mangere man, aged 29, died on Friday afternoon after getting into difficulties while diving for mussels near Orakei Wharf.

A boy, aged 10, pulled unconscious from the Parnell public swimming pool on Saturday was critically ill, said an Auckland Hospital spokesman last evening.
