Eight teams in polo cup contest
Eight senior teams have entered for the Saville Cup national polo tournament, being hosted by the Amuri Polo Club at Culverden, from February 13 to 16.
Although the tournament is recongised as a national championship, it has drawn only one North Island team, from the Hawke’s Bay Polo Club.
The other entries are from Ashburton (2), Ashley, Blenheim (2), and Amuri (2).
The sole North Island representation is attributed to a clash of dates with North Island
matches. Junior teams will play a tournament for the Riddiford Cup. Canterbury clubs have had four preliminary tournaments in preparation for the Saville Cup tournament, including one hosted by Amuri at Culverden last week-end. Another will be played at Blenheim this weekend. The South Island open tournament will be held at Ashburton from February 28 to March 2. The Ashley Club will host a tournament at Rangiora on March 15 and 16.
