Perth — a city fringed by parks and bush
Perth, the capital of Western Australia, lies beside the picturesque Swan River. Fringed by parks and bush, the river passes through the port of Fremantle to the Indian Ocean. An isolated city with a population of 900,000, Perth has all the attractions of an international metropolis, including sophisticated night life, theatres, and restaurants. The home of the America’s Cup, the prestigious international yachting event, Perth also claims to have some of the best beaches in Australia. The city has an average of eight hours of sunshine a day with an average summer day temperature of 29 deg. In winter the average is still a warm 18 deg.
“No minute gone comes ever back again; take heed and see ye nothing do in vain,” reads the inscription under a clock at the entrance to London Court from Hay Street. The clock is a replica of the dial on Big Ben in Westminster, London. Above the clock, horsemen joust every quarter hour.
