Neil Hain 'comfortable’
PA Wellington The jockey, Neil Hain, was in a comfortable condition in Rotorua Hospital yesterday after fracturing his neck in a fall at the Rotorua meeting on Saturday. Hain, with Alwyn Tweedie, was rushed to hospital after El Marino and Balmereve fell heavily 850 m from the finish of the Evergreen Lodge Challenge Stakes. Tweedie, who dislocated a shoulder, was discharged yesterday morning but Hain is expected to be in hospital for about six weeks. A Rotorua Hospital spokesman said Hain was in a satisfactory condition but as well as the fractured neck, had suffered a lot of bruising. Racing at Rotorua was abandoned immediately after the race because of the slippery nature of the Arawa Park track.
