After round one, held in Nelson last December, the Tigers led, 80 points to 60, the Eagles needing to win the second round by more than 20 points. The Eagles driver, Wayne Wilding, took pole position for the race, with Nelson’s Peter

Hewitt right behind, with the Glen Eagles team captain, Terry Hem, beside Hewitt. From the start, Wilding was pushed out of the way by Hewitt, who stormed into the lead from Ross and Hem. Going Into the back straight Hem shoved Woodford into the concrete wall, but Hem found himself straddling the track and was hit very hard by Ross, ending Hem’s race.
