Second award for Hogan
NZPA-AAP Sydney In his second national accolade recently, actor, Paul Hogan, won the Australian of the Year Award for 1985. The Australia Day Council chose Hogan, aged 46, for the award because of his North American television commercials promoting tourism in Australia. The award is given to public nominees who have made outstanding contributions to Australia. It was announced in Sydney, but Hogan’s son, Brett, had to collect it for him because the actor is ,in.
Canada making a film. The Sydney-based father of five was made a Member of the Order of Australia in the civil Honours List recently. A wheelchair athlete, Deahnne Mclntyre, aged 14, was named Young Australian of the Year by the council. Mclntyre, from Rivett in the A.C.T., beat off 160 athletes from around the world to win 16 medals in the Third Australian Junior Wheelchair Games last year. She is confined to a wheelchair by spinabifida.
