Open tournament at Rangiora

A $l2OO sponsored open tennis tournament will be held at Rangiora on February 15 and 16. The event is being organised by the North Canterbury Tennis Sub-Association, which has received “very good sponsorship” for prizes from business firms in Amberley, Kaiapoi and Rangiora.

The men’s and women’s A grade singles will carry prizes of $lOO for the winners, $5O for the runnersup, and $25 each for the losing semi-finalists. The corresponding prizes for the B

grade are $5O, $25, and $lO. In the men’s and women’s A grade doubles, the winners will receive $5O each and the runners-up $25, while those for the B grade will be $25 and $l5. In the open mixed doubles the winners will get $4O each, the runners-up $2O each, and the losing semifinalists $lO each. If the entries warrant, plate competitions with prizes will be held also. North Canterbury ran a similar tournament two years ’ago at Easter, but this year the sub-association has been

able to bring the date forward to a more favourable time with the Canterbury association co-operating in providing favourable date arrangements with no other clashing fixtures.

The tournament will be played over three venues at Rangiora, using courts at the Rangiora and Southbrook clubs and the Rangiora High School, with play beginning at 8.30 each day.

Entries for the tournament are $l2 for singles and $8 each for doubles. Morning and afternoon teas, lunches and refreshments will be available at the venues. A free barbecue will be held on the Saturday evening and a closing function and presentation of trophies will be held on the Sunday evening. Entries close on February 10, with the North Canterbury secretary, Mrs Lynette Graham, from whom more information may be obtained at telephone 5243 Rangiora.
