Murray Wildbore, of North Beach, with four salmon he caught in the Rakaia River yesterday. The salmon weighed between 4.5 kg and 6.Bkg each. Mr Wildbore said he caught the first three within 20 minutes of beginning fishing at his “special spot” at 7.30 a.m.
He had caught the maximum catch allowed by about 9 a.m. Mr Wildbore said he was not sure what he would do with all the fish, as he has already bottled 21 jars of salmon from a previous catch this week, and still has another 25 jars bottled after a successful
fishing season last year. His spot on ; the banks of the Rakaia has yielded a total of 15 salmon ■ this week. Mr Wildbore, who works at the Post Office in Christchurch, fishes in friendly rivalry with five other co-workers, who also are keen salmon fishermen.
