Teachers await Cabinet decision
PA Wellington Secondary teachers will meet to decide their next move if the Cabinet vetos their pay deal on Monday. The president of the Post-Primary Teachers’ Association, Mr Peter Allen, said the association had been told that the Cabinet State management committee would recommend that the Cabinet reject the pay deal worked out between the association and education authorities. He said the association wanted to keep its lines of
communication open with the Government and if the pay deal was not accepted there should be further negotiations. That was better than putting the case to arbitration, which could produce a result more expensive to the Government, Mr Allen said. The deal already worked out had reduced ’ some traditional relativity links between secondaiy school teachers and other l&ovemment employ dffe,' he said.
