Model and Le Bon ‘just good friends’

PA Auckland Yasmin Le Bon, wife of the popstar, Simon Le Bon, is flying to Melbourne to join him this week-end .amid rumours about his friendship with an Auckland model and beauty queen, Maree Herbert. Mrs Le Bon, a top British model, is expecting a baby in July. Maree Herbert, aged 20, denies she is involved in an affair with Simon Le Bon, her constant companion for the last week. “It’s absolute rubbish Simon and I are just really good friends,” she said yesterday. A spokesman for Simon Le Bon said yesterday that Le Bon was “absolutely furious” about the rumours. The singer’s only comment for publication was: “I love my wife.” Jackie Dodd-Noble, manager of Le Bon’s Whitbread yacht Drum,

said Mrs Le Bon had at first planned to accompany her husband to New Zealand after their brief honeymoon in the South of France late last year. Rumours- began after Le Bon and Ms Herbert, a finalist in the 1983 “Miss New Zealand” and “Look of ’B3” contests, met during the filming of a television advertisement shot for the American company which makes Sasson Jeans. Ms Herbert, who bears a resemblance to Le Bon’s part-Iranian wife, has been on the singer’s arm during the crew’s nightly jaunts on the town over the last week. She says she and the other models on the Sasson shoot have spent a lot of time with Simon Le Bon and the Drum crew since the filming.

“I’ve had a fantastic time. It’s just been the best thing that has ever happened to me,” she said.
