Bogus exchange deal charges
PA Wellington Depositions on 37 charges relating to foreign exchange dealing at Broadbank would take two weeks, the District Court at Wellington was told yesterday. The charges allege bogus foreign exchange dealings in the middle of last year Involving the buying and selling of over $lOO million when in fact
the deals never occurred. Bruce Lindsay Pemberton, aged 33, a hunter, lan Richard Morris, aged 25, unemployed, and a third person whose name is suppressed, have elected trial on the charges. Pemberton faces 28 charges of false accounting and two charges of drawing documents. Morris is charged with six counts of false accounting and the third person faces one false accounting charge. Counsel for the third man, Mr David Collins, said an application was being considered for the preliminary hearing into the charge to be heard by a judge. Such hearings are normally heard by two justices of the peace. Judge A. B. Beatson remanded the defendants to February 13 for a date for the preliminary hearing to be set.
