Public Notices RURAL AREA RESTRICTED FIRE SEASON THE following restrictions concerning the lighting of fires in the open shall apply to that part of Paparua not covered by the Urban Fire District of Christchurch, being part of the Selwyn Fire Group comprising the Counties of Ellesmere, Malvern and the - rural area of Paparua. Pursuant to the provisions of the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977, the lighting of fires In the open in the rural portion of the Paparua County is prohibited from WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 29,1986, until further notice, except that burning is allowed without a permit between the hours of 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. provided the weather conditions are suitable and the area to be burned is surrounded by a strip, cleared to bare mineral earth, of a minimum width of 10 metres. The lighting of fires in the land occupied by the North Canterbury Catchment Board, the Selwyn Plantation Board, or on the Port Hills, is totally prohibited. Barbecues lit in approved containers and situated on an area served by a domestic water supply are not deemed to be fires in the open. At times a complete ban on all fires in the open may be Imposed by the Conservator of Forests throughout Canterbury and such bans supercede any restrictions Imposed by this Council or the Selwyn Fire Group. Pursuant to the provisions of the Forest and Rural Fires Act, 1977, the lighting of fires in the open air is prohibited as from Wednesday, January 29, 1986, and until further notice in the Selwyn Fire Group area unless a permit is obtained from a Principal Rural Fire Officer, except that on the plain lands of Malvern, Paparua and Ellesmere Counties burning is permitted without a permit between the hours of 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. provided the weather conditions are suitable and the area to be burned is surrounded by a 10m wide strip cleared to bare mineral earth. Note that a permit is required from the Principal Rural Officer to light any fire in the open in the Tawera Riding and that portion of the Home Bush Riding west of the Selwyn River.
