Situations Vacant Situations Vacant Department of Internal Affairs SENIORS RESEARCH OFFICER HEAD OFFICE WELLINGTON VACANCY No. 948 THE DEPARTMENT invites applications from suitably qualified people for the position of Senior Research Officer. This is the senior social science position in the Department. The appointee will be responsible for: • The administration and supervision of the Research Unit of seven people, located in the Corporate Services Division; • The professional and technical oversight of the Department’s social research programme; • Liaison between the Unit and the “clients” for whom it is undertaking projects; e The continued development of the Unit and the contribution it makes to the Department’s operation; • Supervision of research contracts with outside individuals and groups; and, • Representing the Department in various social science forums and special project groups. The research programme includes evaluation of the Department’s programmes and schemes, descriptive and investigative research projects on the social context of these activities, and advisory assist' ance to “client” groups both within and outside the Department. Topics for research are related to the Department’s responsibilities in such areas as youth, arts and cultural activities, community development, recreation, gaming and film censorship. Projects involve the use of both qualitative and quantitative research techniques. The successful appointee should have demonstrated: • An active, participative style of team leadership; • Skill in the personal, professional and technical encouragement and supervision of staff; • A confident and easy manner in dealing with people at all levels in Government organisations and the community; • The ability to convey technical research matters readily to non-technically trained people; • Knowledge and experience in programme evaluation and general social research techniques; A clear Interest in the application and policy implications of social science research; and, • A good understanding of the functioning of Government departments. Work in the section involves a wide range of advisory tasks associated with these areas. Preference will be given to applicants having experience or qualifications in the field. See application details below REGIONAL ARCHIVIST AUCKLAND Vacancy No. 958 NATIONAL ARCHIVES ■ requires an experienced Archivist to manage its Auckland Regional Office. The main roles of the Regional Archivist will be to represent the director of National Archives in administering the Archives Act 1957, to continue the process of establishing National Archives in Auckland and to manage the Regional Office effectively and efficiently.. Broad experience of Archives work and a flair for Public Relations are required attributes. The ability to manage a small office, supervise professional and other staff, and liaise effectively with Governmental offices and other agencies is also required. A relevant degree and professional qualifications all desirable. FBI inland 11 revenue SOLICITOR TAX INTELLIGENCE UNIT The Tax Intelligence Unit is part of the complete section of the Inland Revenue Department, Head Office, Wellington. The objective of the unit Is to detect the existence of tax avoidance schemes, to establish their legal position, and to assist in the formulation of departmental policies and practices In relation to the treatment of tax avoidance schemes. The role of a Solicitor on the tax intelligence unit Is to provide legal advice but they are also able to participate In all aspects of the units work. The head office unit consists of Accountants and Solicitors and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop expertise in tax law and tax administration. Previous tax or commercial law experience is required for this position.
