N.Z. loses 19,000 people
PA Wellington New Zealand’s net migration loss was more than 19,200 last year, said the Statistics Department yesterday. Almost 54,800 people left and'35,500 arrived. In 1984 the net loss was about 3100. A net migration gain has occurred only once in the last 10 years — in 1983, when 8200 more people arrived than left. The biggest losses were from 1977 to 1980, ranging between 23,500 and 41,800. The acting Opposition, Spokesman on immigration, Mr George Galr, said the rising trend in unemployment would have been worse but for the net migration loss.
. The loss was a six-fold increase on the net loss in the year to December, 1984.
