The ministry has recently installed a Vax based minicomputer network with links to an IBM mainfralme. The Vax system has statistics, graphics, database and office automation packages and a variety of programming languages. There are a large number of pcs connected to the system running lotus and wordprocessing software. A number of existing programmes, written in PLI and fortran and some large mathematical models are run on the IBM. The appointee will be required to support other staff in the use of these systems. He/She will have knowledge in the areas listed above and in simple data communications and equipment Interfacing. QUALIFICATIONS: A degree in computer science, engineering or OR/Applied Maths with a significant computing content. Units in OR Statistics would be an advantage. Experience in the use of Vax and IBM mainframes desirable. REMUNERATION: A competitive salary is payable dependent on qualifications and relevant experience?
