Vonnie’s Charm top chance

By

G. K. YULE

The winning run of Wishful at Addington Raceway on Tuesday points to Vonnie’s Charm being a leading contender for honours in the Prince Albert Hotel Pace, the first leg of the T.A.B. treble on the opening day of the Nelson Club’s summer meeting at Richmond Park today. Last Saturday at the Amberley meeting, Vonnie’s Charm did well to go under by only half a length to Wishful over 2000 m. She was mid-field until well inside the last 800 m, at which stage she had to sprint hard to sit in the open. She took a short lead early in the run

home and it was late when Wishful caught her. Vonnie’s Charm will by no means have things her own way. Sycamore, a son of Sapling, was far from disgraced when second to Uncle Alex at the Amberley meeting. However, he has to overcome the disadvantage of having to start from the unruly position in a big field. He will have to improve very little on that effort to make Vonnie’s Charm work hard for victory. Noble Report finished well for third to Golden Don at the Amberley meeting, pointing to another bold run from him even though he is to start from the second line. Menorlue, Idle

Thoughts, Toby Bay and Skywalker , have paced the occasional sound race and they add to the form puzzle. Then there are promising first-starters such as Ministress and Armbro Padero, which could well add interest to proceedings.

The D.B. Nelson Cup and the Prudential Insurance Co. Pace, the two legs of the T.A.B. double, are the other legs of the treble. Betting in the Cup is certain to be well spread as a capacity field strong in form attempts to take out the first prize attached to the big stake of $7300, one of the biggest of the year for a race with a C 3 front
