De Porres put down

Greymouth reporter De Porres, from the stable of Bill Kennedy at Ikamatua, was destroyed after seriously injuring himself in the last race at Omoto last week; De Porres had a race record of three wins and three platings from 17 starts. An autopsy was carried out at Massey University to determine the injury to a hind leg which put the horse in extreme pain. The Gadfly has been retired to the matron’s paddock, after her good run for second behind Zara’s Star. The Gadfly which had recently returned after an injury was purchased at the 1981 National Yearling Sales.
