r Northland Harbour Board General Manager This position becomes available with the pending retirement of the present General Manager. Our client is one of the largest harbour boards in the country, both in total tonnage and scope of authority (15 harbours under its control), and has diverse business interests (forestry/farming and real estate). Present challenges lie in the areas of diversification and increase of general cargo, recreational use of harbour assets and maritime planning. Major development could occur in the 1990’s with private sector utilisation of the Northland forest resources. The General Manager’s prime function is to manage the organisation’s activities in accordance with Board policy. The diversification activities will require increased attention to developing a coordinated marketing plan for the maximum utilisation of Board resources and facilities. The establishment of 240 people is controlled through seven senior executives. Regular outside contact is maintained through meetings of relevant trade associations, both in New Zealand and occasionally overseas. Applications are invited from executives.with proven senior management track records in either the public or private sector, preferably possessing appropriate qualifications. Supplementary marketing skills would be of advantage. The position carries a maximum salary of up to $55 000 p.a., set by the Higher Salaries Corhmission.
