Week-end power break
Lyttelton residents hoping to spend Sunday afternoon at home watching the crucial World Series Cup cricket match on television will have to make other plans. Electricity will be shut down throughout Lyttelton Borough and the port from 12.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. to allow the New Zealand Electricity Department to complete annual maintenance work on the lines that supply Lyttelton from the Heathcote Valley. The shutdown was initially scheduled for last week-end, but was postponed until Sunday because the port was too busy. -
Two feeder lines supply the borough electricity department and the Lyttelton Harbour Board from Heathcote. Cricket fans looking forward to the clash between New Zealand and India in Tasmania will not be the only people inconvenienced.
Restaurant owners who turned down bookings in anticipation of the shutdown last Sunday are reported to have received heavy bookings for this week-end. ARRIVALS Greenwave (6.30 a.m.), 5807 (Daigety).
