New group backs 'morality, tradition’
PA Auckland The Coalition of Concerned Citizens says It intends to back candidates from any party who “stand for righteousness and traditional values” at local body and general elections. The coalition’s national press spokesman, Mr Barry Reed, of Auckland, said several people had already put themselves forward as candidates.
He said it was ciear from meetings addressed by the group’s leaders, Mr Keith Hay and Sir Teter
Tait, that thousands of
people felt the main political parties were “making a moral vacuum.” Mr Reed said that the coalition was apolitical. Coalition supporters were being encouraged to join political parties. He said a tour of 45 electorates by executive members of the coalition had led to local groups being set up to monitor local body officials and
members of Parliament. A branch had recently been established in Christchurch, he said.
