Quite famous on trial
PA Auckland Only a poor showing at Harold Park tonight is likely to prevent the topranking Australian pacer, Quite Famous, from being a starter in the $250,000 Auckland Trotting Cup on February 8. A booking for the horse has been made on a flight to Auckland on Tuesday, says Mr Ron Bisman, the Auckland Trotting Club’s promotions officer. He said yesterday that Quite Famous would be stabled on Roy Purdon’s property at Clevedon, south of Auckland.
“Everything hinges on his form at Harold Park,” Bisman said. “If he goes all right, he will make the trip.”
Quite Famous, a five-year-old entire by Knowing Fame from Shooshla, is regarded as one of Australia’s best stayers. His trainer, Jim O’Sullivan, who has made many trips to New Zealand, feels the horse would be suited by the testing Auckland Trotting Cup journey of 2700 m from a mobile start.
